CNA (NNAAP) Written Exam: Practice Test, Pass Score & How to Pass

Nurse aide candidates in about 20 states and territories take the NNAAP written exam, given by Credentia, along with a hands-on skills evaluation. passvana has a practice track for the written part: CNA Written Exam (NNAAP). Here is what the exam looks like, from the official candidate handbook and content outline.

CNA Written Exam (NNAAP)

  • Questions: 70 multiple-choice questions: 60 scored and 10 unscored pretest questions. (2024 NNAAP outline; Colorado candidate handbook (Oct 2024))
  • Time allowed: Two hours. (Colorado candidate handbook (Oct 2024))
  • Passing score: Not published; results are reported as pass or fail. Check your state's handbook. (Colorado candidate handbook (Oct 2024))

How to pass on your first try

  • Think like the nurse aide in the room. The right answer is usually the safe, respectful action within an aide's role, often telling the nurse about a change.
  • Give Basic Nursing Skills the most time. At 35 percent of scored questions it is the largest area, followed by Activities of Daily Living at 22 percent.
  • Know the numbers. Normal pulse and respiration ranges, intake and output conversions and positioning angles turn up as straight recall questions.
  • Take full timed mock exams before test day, so the length and pace of the real exam hold no surprises.
