EPA Section 608 Certification Test: Practice Test, Pass Score & How to Pass

The EPA Section 608 technician certification test is required to service, repair or dispose of stationary refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, and to buy most refrigerants. passvana has a practice track for it: EPA Section 608 Certification Test (Universal). Here is what the test looks like, from the federal rule itself.

EPA Section 608 Certification Test (Universal)

  • Questions: Universal covers all three types: 100 questions (25 Core + 25 each type), taken at once or by combining passed sections. (40 CFR 82 App. D(a), (d))
  • Passing score: 70 percent; 84 percent for a mail-in Type I test. (40 CFR 82 App. D(e))
  • Time limit: Not set by the rule; each certifying program sets its own. Our mock uses 120 minutes, the commonly reported figure. (40 CFR 82 App. D)

How to pass on your first try

  • Master Core first. Every certification type includes the same 25 Core questions, so Core is part of every test you take.
  • Learn the numbers exactly. Evacuation levels, leak-rate thresholds, repair deadlines and record-keeping periods are tested as figures, and a near miss is a wrong answer.
  • Know which type covers which equipment. Small appliances, high-pressure and low-pressure systems each have their own rules and their own section.
  • Take full timed mock exams before test day, so 100 questions in one sitting holds no surprises.
