FAA Part 107 Knowledge Test: Practice Test, Pass Score & How to Pass

Flying a drone commercially in the US takes a Remote Pilot Certificate, and that starts with the FAA's Part 107 knowledge test. passvana has a practice track for it: FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Test. Here is what the test looks like, from the FAA's own documents.

FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Test

  • Questions: 60. (FAA Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix; Remote Pilot ACS, Appendix 1)
  • Time: 2.0 hours. (FAA Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix; Remote Pilot ACS, Appendix 1)
  • Passing score: 70% or better. (FAA Airman Knowledge Testing Matrix; Remote Pilot ACS, Appendix 1)
  • Retakes: Wait 14 calendar days after a failure. No instructor endorsement is needed; bring the failed test report. (14 CFR 107.71; Remote Pilot ACS, Appendix 1)

How to pass on your first try

  • Practice reading sectional charts. Airspace questions are asked from the FAA's testing supplement, so learn to find the answer on the chart itself.
  • Learn to decode METARs and TAFs. Weather reports come up in their coded form, not in plain English.
  • Memorize the operating limits in Part 107 and the conditions under which each one can be waived.
  • Take full timed mock exams before test day, so the length and pace of the real test hold no surprises.
